Meeting Just Bobbi Brown

A year ago today, I was lucky to finally meet Beauty Legend Bobbi Brown. Bobbi is so real, authentic and is owning 60. It was awesome to meet her and hear her speak live. I am a big fan of her beauty philosophy and the brand she founded. I love makeup that makes you look like a more beautiful version of yourself and Bobbi embraced that.

A little food for thought from my evening with Bobbi at Indigo Bay Bloor.

* Balance – our bodies know when we are out of balance.

* Nude is the colour of your lips – this is different for every woman. Sometimes when our makeup is done, all you need is a gloss

* Strong is better than skinny. If there is nothing else, walk. 10K maintenance, 12K to lose weight. We can walk anywhere.

* Instead of whining about what isn’t working, go do something different

* Blush colour – pinch your cheeks to find the perfect shade. Find a multi-use product you can use on your lips and cheeks

* Find what works for YOU

* Be Who You Are

* Be Kind

To learn more Bobbi tips, definitely check out her ninth book Beauty from the Inside Out and visit her brand new website Just Bobbi. Excited to see what is next for Bobbi as she evolves into health and wellness. No doubt she is will continue to make an impact.

Makeup Brush Care

“Your makeup is only as good as the tools you use to apply it. Therefore your tools must always be in their working condition.” – Bobbi Brown – Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual

Regardless which makeup brushes you invest in, make sure you take the time to take care of them. I have both full sized and mini brushes – I keep them from collections as they are perfect to take on the go or when I travel.

The weekend is a great time to clean your brushes so they have the time to dry completely. While there are expensive makeup brush cleaning products on the market, I use a good old fashion gentle baby shampoo. Since I have scent-sensitives to some fragrant products, I find the Aveeno Baby Lightly Scented Wash and Shampoo is perfect for me. I wash my brushes one of two ways – one bowl with water and a bit of the baby shampoo and the other with water to rinse. For brushes that need a more in-depth cleaning like foundation, blush and bronzer brushes, I will drop some baby shampoo and water in the palm of my clean hand, swirl the brush to get them super clean and then rinse under the tap being careful to not get the handle wet. I find a dishrack is perfect for drying my brushes or lying across a rectangular shaped vase.

Take care of your brushes and they will take care of you.

Autumn Wedding Makeup

It is not too often I get to glam up so it was very lovely to have a wedding to go to this evening. Makeup is from my Bobbi Brown Cosmetics collection. For a base – light bisque corrector, light sand instant Full Cover corrector, sand stick foundation, bare nude illuminating powder, stonestreet bronzer to add a bit of warmth to my skin, nude pink blusher and pink glow for highlighting. On my eyes, ivory is swept across the lid, black plum long wear eye liner along the waterline and lash line and a combination of eggplant, star beam and mica eye shadows on my lid followed by smokey eye mascara. To finish lip balm and crushed lipstick in Cali Rose. Crystal earrings from Swarovski. Autumn wedding glamour. Thank you to @glowbytamara and @bbpro_hannahmartin for teaching me many amazing makeup tips. đź’—

Simple Glowy Friday Makeup

Simple glowy Friday makeup thanks to inspiration from Lauren of Hunter and Heels (@huntersandheels) and her new video “Quick, Easy, Everyday Makeup for Mums“. While not a mum myself, I can definitely embrace a quick makeup routine that makes me look glowy and awake. I started with my R+F Soothe Steps 1, 2 and 3, REDEFINE Multi-Function Eye Cream and then finished with REVERSE Suncreen. I started my makeup by applying Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturizer (Extra Light). Since I was challenged with lots of insomnia this week, I applied corrector (Light Bisque) followed by the new Instant Full Cover Concealer (Cool Sand) and Nude Finish Illuminating Setting Powder (Bare). On my eyes is Ivory shadow swept across my lid, Cavier applied with a wet eyeliner brush across the top lash line followed by smokey eye mascara (black). Applied blusher (Pale Pink – a blue based pink) to the apple of my cheeks for a pop of pink and Highlighting Powder (Pink Glow). Crystal Lip Gloss applied once on the go. Happy Friday!

Pretty in Pink Glow

Thankful to the Bobbi Brown Makeup Artist that introduced me to the Bobbi Brown Brightening Brick in Pink at Harrods London Heathrow. It is definitely a palette well loved and used. Blusher and bronzer simplified into one. I love the warmth of bronzer with a hint of blush for a lovely pretty in pink glow.

Bobbi Brown Instant Full Cover Concealer

Suffering from Sunday evening insomnia. Bobbi Brown Instant Full Cover Concealer to the rescue on Monday morning. I am loving this product. I first use my Rodan + Fields REDEFINE Multi-Function Eye Cream and then follow with the Concealer – apply a bit with the applicator but pat and blend with my finger. My shade is Cool Sand which provides instant brightness to my eye area. While I love to wear eye makeup, a concealer is perfect for those who don’t want to wear makeup – it helps you look fresh and awake and who doesn’t want that. Available in 15 shades too. If you are in Toronto and want to find your perfect shade, definitely go and see Tamara Spence Vega at Murale at CF Shops at Don Mills.

Memories of an afternoon with Bobbi Brown UK Senior Pro Artist Hannah Martin

Life is all about experiences and thanks to Instagram and a wee bit of good timing, I got to spend a fun afternoon at Harrods two years ago today with Bobbi Brown UK Senior Pro Artist Hannah Martin (@hannahmartinmakeup). Imagine an afternoon chatting all things makeup, learning new techniques and getting a bit glam for my evening out in London. Incredibly awesome experience!

My mother loved makeup and never left home without it especially her pink lipstick. As they say, the apple does not fall from the tree. I have adored makeup for as long as I can remember, always love a chance to have my makeup done and the opportunity to learn new things. With London calling, a telephone call across the pond to Harrods secured an appointment for Friday afternoon before meeting my friends for an evening of drinks, dinner and dancing. I was very excited for the chance to meet and learn from Hannah after following her for many months on Instagram. I also love how I had absolutely no idea she was on hand at the 2011 Royal Wedding until after my holiday but no less exciting to find out after the fact. I have loved all things British since childhood including the Royal family so this was icing on the cake to this experience.

Having your makeup done by Hannah is like hanging out with your BFF. Reflecting back, I share a few of the awesome tips I learned that day.

* Lip Balm – nourish your lips when you start to apply your makeup and then apply lipstick or lip gloss once you have finished your makeup. Always the final step.

* After applying foundation, smoosh your face with your hands. The warmth will help melt your makeup into your skin. A simple tip that Bobbi Brown taught her.

* Bronzer and Blusher – Place bronzer high on the checks, the temple and don’t forget to warm your neck. Think of drawing a three on both sides of your face with a pop of blush on the cheeks. Hannah’s favourite is blue pink called pale pink which she often uses on brides – maybe even one famous one. Finish up with a bit of Shimmer Brick to highlight on the upper cheekbones. Remember to smile during these steps.

* Brows – I never filled mine in until Hannah introduced me to Perfectly Defined Long-Wear Brow Pencil in Wheat.

* Eyes – Hannah created an evening smokey eye look for my night out with friends. I normally wear brown, navy or purple eyeliner (or eye shadow as liner) but she promised me a Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Blank Ink would make my green eyes pop without being too harsh for my fair complexion and blonde hair. It definitely did. Gel Eyeliner can take a bit of getting used to it but I love it. I use the Ultra Precise Eyeliner brush to apply it close to the lash line and will carefully dot below the lid. For a smokey eye look, I will smudge it with the Smokey Eye Liner Brush. Another fun addition was sparkle to my eyelids with Sparkle Eye Shadow in Mica. It has become a staple for my evening eye look. Finish with Mascara.

I loved that Hannah made me look like a more glamorous version of me. To this day, she continues to inspire me through her Instagram feed, YouTube videos and many articles. If you love everything makeup, definitely subscribe to Hannah Martin’s YouTube Chanel.

Hannah – I consider myself so lucky to have had the opportunity to learn from you. Hope our paths will cross again soon in London or Canada. Thank you for your beautiful spirit and teaching women everywhere to be who they are. xx
