Brighton Layson and Passmore Mupinduko – ZimSculpt Toronto
Brighton Layson and Passmore Mupindiko are the two resident sculptors visiting Toronto for the ZimSculpt Exhibit at the Toronto Botanical Garden. I have been a few times since the exhibit opened and have enjoyed chatting, getting to know them and seeing them create amazing sculptures. If you have not yet been, do plan a visit on your own or with family and friends before Sunday, September 30th. Make sure to drop by to see these two lovely gentlemen in the ZimSculpt Marketplace to say hello and see what they are getting up to.
Dominic Benhura at ZimSculpt Toronto
Famous Zimbabwean Sculptor Dominic Benhura and his beautiful work at ZimSculpt at the Toronto Botanical Garden. Lovely to be included in this evening’s special event. Dominic will be live sculpting until Sunday September 16th along with resident sculptors Brighton Layson and Passmore Mupindiko. A great week to visit.
Exercising Baby
One should surround themselves with things that are either beautiful or practical or both.
On my first visit to ZimSculpt, I fell in love with a beautiful sculpture called “Exercising Baby” I found in their Marketplace. Sadly the piece was not in my budget but I took a photograph to remember it. Apparently I really loved the piece as in reviewing my photographs I found a smaller version of the sculpture I loved. Lucky to find it on my second visit to the exhibit. Exercising Baby by Richard Kambazuma now has a new home with me.

ZimSculpt at the Toronto Botanical Garden
ZimSculpt is a stunning new exhibit to the Toronto Botanical Garden this summer. Curator Vivienne Croisette has brought 100+ sculptures across the world from Zimbabwe to Toronto for a free exhibit that will run daily until Sunday September 30th.
All ZimSculpt sculptures are for sale and there is also a marketplace where you may purchase smaller sculptures too. Vivienne will host coffee chats on Saturday and Sundays mornings and there are also tours available to get a behind the scenes perspective into the sculptures.
Two sculptors – Brighton Layson and Passmore Mupindiko – are part of the ZimSculpt team that has travelled to Toronto and will live-sculpt brand new sculptures next to the Marketplace Tent. Don’t miss the opportunity to see them create during their stay.
I was lucky to learn about this exhibit as Vivienne is a friend of a friend of mine. It did not disappoint. The ZimSculpt modern stone sculptures are simply amazing and I love how many portray strong women and family life. You truly need a few hours to roam and appreciate all the pieces that are placed throughout the gardens. If you live and/or visiting Toronto in August and September, I highly recommend planning a visit to explore and discover ZimSculpt for yourself.

Introducing the amazing ten Chefs who will be part of our first Junior League of Toronto Chef’s Showcase with Host Christine Cushing on Thursday May 3rd.
Meet the Chefs of Yorkshire Pudding
The JLT Chef’s Showcase is an evening culinary event held at George Brown College, in partnership with the College.
The price of admission ($90) allows guests to have an interactive experience by getting up close and personal with chefs as you taste the results of their culinary skills. It is a cocktail format from 6 to 9 pm with wine pairings by Noble Estates Wine and Spirits and features a silent auction of unique food themed items.
The event will also introduce and fund the JLT Culinary Scholarship*, in partnership with the George Brown Foundation, as well as fund other JLT programs and initiatives.
Tickets are available via the Junior League of Toronto.

Meet the Host of our first Junior League of Toronto Chef’s Showcase – Chef Christine Cushing!
Christine graduated with honours from George Brown College before going on to finish at the top of her class at the famed Paris École de Cuisine La Varenne. In Toronto Christine worked at renowned kitchens such as The Four Seasons Hotel and Scaramouche then went on to the ground-breaking Food Network flagship series, Christine Cushing Live. Christine has since continued to share her love and knowledge of food on TV with Fearless in the Kitchen, the Marilyn Denis Show, and her documentary series, Confucius was a Foodie now playing in over 90 countries! Christine has been teaching viewers how to cook for 20 years and was recently nominated for ‘Best Host in a Program of Series’ at the 2018 Canadian Screen Awards. The busy and accomplished George Brown alumni has also created her own artisan food line: Christine’s Cushing’s olive oil and sauces and her own youtube channel; ‘My Favourite Foods’ with over 10,000 subscribers!
