Resumes Simplified for Students and New Graduates

With the end of school and summer break on the horizon, organizations are actively looking for students for upcoming co-op, internships and post-graduate job opportunities.

If you are a student, now is the time to be on the job search for the summer months or thinking of life beyond your college or university campus. To apply for job opportunities you will need a resume. If you have not developed one now is the time to start. Here are some ideas of things to include:

  • Name and contact including your telephone number, email address and LinkedIn URL
  • Career Objectives
  • Qualifications Summary
  • Formal Education and Professional Development
  • Work Experience
  • For students who do not have any work experience you may wish to highlight any volunteer positions, project work and extracurricular activities to help showcase your skills
  • Technical Skills
  • Awards and Accomplishments

A resume is a fluid document and will evolve throughout your career. Always keep track of your roles, titles, dates, duties, and accomplishments. If you are feeling a bit lost about your job search, definitely tap into career services resources available at your school.

Happy resume writing!
